Indian Harbour Beach is justifiably proud of its 100% volunteer fire department with approximately 30 members. We are your neighbors and friends, ranging in age from our 20’s to over 50, and come from all walks of life, from mechanics to teachers, to engineers, retirees and businessmen. The Indian Harbour Beach Fire Department was established on August 4, 1965, and we believe it is the finest fire department in the county, if not the entire state of Florida. The fact that it is 100% volunteer saves our citizens a sizable number of tax dollars each year. Not only do we volunteer our time and services to help protect life and property in the city, but the firefighters also formed a corporation, which, over the years, has purchased state of the art equipment (e.g. an AED and a thermal imager) and fire trucks and donated them to the City. We bought and donated a $143,000 Class A pumper in 1988 and in 1995, a 1250 GPM enclosed-cab, Class A pumper for $130,000 with $10,000 worth of hose and equipment. In the year 2000, we partnered with the City to purchase our first aerial ladder truck, at a cost of $484,707. In March 2007, a new Class A Pumper was purchased by the department and donated  to the City.

The Indian Harbour Beach Volunteer Fire Department Corporation conducts an annual fund drive to help the volunteers continue providing our citizens with state-of-the-art firefighting capabilities. Our requests for donations are mailed to all homes and businesses within the city each year during October (Fire Prevention Month.) We NEVER solicit by phone and caution residents to be leery of phoned requests for donations by other firefighting groups whose monies never benefit our department. The volunteers train continuously to keep abreast of the latest in firematic techniques; and our commitment to excellence ensures the highest standards in fire protection for the residents and businesses of Indian Harbour Beach.
